Join us on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Tuckahoe for the online presentation followed by a short discussion with Jane Pauley as she discusses reinvention and connection through every stage of life. Ms. Pauley, the Road Scholar’s 2026 Keynote Speaker, will be discussing “Reimagining the Rest of Your Life."

Costco Shuttle
The Costco shuttle occurs on the second Wednesday morning of the last month of the quarter (March, June, September, December), with trips to Costco in Charlottesville. The shuttle will leave from the Tuckahoe Clubhouse at 9:30 am on the dates of service. Participants will have a little over an hour to shop on each trip.
Members now on the “shopping shuttle” list of shoppers receive reminders before each trip. Members can join the list by emailing admin@heretostaywtg.org. This does not mean you are obligated to attend, it just means you will receive a reminder message of the day, time, and location of departure where you can sign up if you are interested.

HSW Volunteer Training & Social
Important training and social event for volunteers on Monday, March 9 starting at 5 pm. The mandatory training will be from 5-6 p.m. and will cover “Common Sense Safety Guidelines” for all HSW drivers, personal owner vehicles and the Shuttle Bus. Also, we'll discuss how to communicate more effectively with people having mild to moderate dementia.
An Italian dinner social will follow the training session.

Movie Club - Singin’ in the Rain
Mark your calendars for the next coming attraction, Singin' in the Rain. This 1952 picture will have you singing and dancing along with Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and 19 year old Debbie Reynolds. Stream the film at home and join us!
Our monthly Movie Club meets on the first Thursday of each month. We will announce the movie to be discussed the prior month. Members of the club will watch the movie at home by streaming it at on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or TUBI. We’ll gather together at 3pm at Tuckahoe to discuss the film and decide on the next film. And yes, there will be popcorn!

Life Plan Notebook Presentation
The Life Plan Notebook provides a guide to assembling all the details and documents a loved one would need in order to follow your wishes should you be unable to provide the information yourself.
The Senior Help Desk is offering an updated presentation on the Life Plan Notebook on Thursday, February 5 at 1 p.m. We welcome newcomers and anyone who is already familiar but might need a “reboot”. The purpose of the notebook is to provide essential information to anyone who might have to represent you if and when you cannot represent yourself. The volunteers of the Senior Help Desk have backgrounds and expertise to help you navigate the notebook.
During the meeting there will be a quick overview of the contents and a chance to ask for clarification if needed. The contents consist of forms covering personal, medical, legal and financial information. There is also information on in-home care and downsizing. As with many projects, we have added a few new things to the notebook such as the Pet Power of Attorney.
At this presentation, Judy Pfeffer and Mark Stapleton will be guests of the Senior Help Desk at this session to answer questions and concerns pertaining to the Veteran Association (VA). Both Judy and Mark use VA services extensively and have experience navigating the VA system. A worthwhile topic for any VA eligible member or volunteer needing to learn more about the VA and its benefits.
HSW will provide you with your own Life Plan notebook. For those who are in need of their very own notebook, the suggested donation remains at $25.00 to help cover the costs of the notebook and contents printing.

Just after the holiday festivities die down and you’re wondering what to do, here comes the Movie Club. For our first meeting, we will be discussing “The Remains of the Day”.
